About NSW Weekend Escapes

Most weekend getaway lists read like they were written from a desk: the same ten stops, the same recycled phrases, no sense of whether any of it is worth your two days off. This site exists to be the other kind of guide.

NSW Weekend Escapes is researched and edited by Riley Mackillop, who lives on the Central Coast of NSW and has spent years hosting weekend travellers at a small accommodation property he built in Dooralong Valley. Hosting hundreds of city escapees teaches you a lot about what people actually want from a short break: less driving, fewer queues, one great meal, and a reason to leave the phone in the cabin.

Every guide aims to answer the questions you would ask a local friend. Is it worth it? How far is it really? What would you skip? Guides get updated when prices, openings, or conditions change enough to matter.

The honest bit

This site is part of the same family as Unwind Escapes, a small glamping retreat in Dooralong Valley. When a guide covers the Central Coast, we sometimes point to it in a clearly labelled “Where to stay” box. It never appears on pages about other regions, and it never influences what we recommend you do. The full rules are in our editorial policy.
